Practice Managers

Welcome to our practice managers’ page. We hope that this can be a focus for information and discussion about postgraduate training in general practice.

Please let us know of any particular information or links to sources that you feel will be useful.

Practice Managers' Update

Thank you to all of you who came on the practice managers nuts and bolts course, the feedback was very positive and there was a request that this should be an annual event. All the hands out are available in the course downloads.

GP Specialty Training Programme

For all enquiries related to GP specialty training and foundation GP placements, your first port of call should be the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Training Programme Administrator, Catherine English. You can send an email to her from here. If she does not know the answer to your question, she will know someone who does.

Employment Issues Advice

Understandably, we are not expert at employer issues like maternity leave and salary scales. Advice can usually be obtained from your PCT. Another useful information source is the West Midlands Deanery GP training FAQs which can be accessed from this website using the list on the left of this page. If you can’t find the answer there, you could try visiting:

Foundation doctors remain employees of the acute trust during their GP placements so you should direct any employment queries about them to the trust’s HR team. To ensure payment for the general practice attachment, you must complete an honorary contract which you can download here.

We are, of course, happy to advise on any purely training issues such as study leave entitlement.

Please suggest any resources that you wish to see on the website and encourage the trainers, trainees and other staff at your practice to use it.
